A buddy of mine is a member of Arrowcreek in Reno and he had a hook up to get us on a new private course in Portola called Grizzley Ranch. Grizzley Ranch is a great layout set way up in the mountains. This is a course that will not only allow you to grip it and rip it, but also make you hit the smart shots in the fairways setting yourself up for a good round. Don't let the name worry you we didn't see any bears up there. Just a great golf course.

Here are some photos from my day at Grizzley Road....

Okay, so this golf course is called "Grizzley Ranch." I was kind of bummed I didn't get to see any bears.

This is a look at the third hole a 602 yard par 5. This hole is pretty much near impossible to hit in 2 unless you hit two Amazing Tiger shots.

After the long par 5, here comes a 487 yard uphill par 4. I had nothing but troubles on this hole, all I can say is I ran away with a bogey on that hole.

This course has a great layout. Lots of risk reward and great views of the mountains.

This is the ninth hole a downhill par 4 that I'm glad I took a picture of because I ended up with a birdie on it.

If you get to play this course, everyone that works there will warn you about the 12th hole, a downhill par 5 that is stupid. You have to hit two layup shots just to have any chance at birdie, which by the way I had no chance of.

The finishing hole is a great uphill par 4. You have lots of trouble on both sides of you. If you hit it left you bring water into play on your second shot, so I hit it right and made par.

So here is my overall rating for Grizzley Road...
Staff/
Service:
3 Balls. Very nice and attentive to you. From the guys checking you in, to the chef in the kitchen everyone was friendly and knew about the course.
Greens:
2 Balls. I want to give them more but they are still way to young. Plus greens up in the mountains take forever to thaw out after winter snow just piles down on them.
Fairways:
4 Balls. Very lush green fairways that gave you roll when you hit the ball down the middle.
Price:

You pretty much have to be a member or hope that you know someone who is a member that can get you on.

Overall
Rating:

3 Balls. I want to give this course a 4 ball rating but it is still too young. They are doing some work making it a little more forgiving but it's still going to be a tough track. If anyone asks you to go there it is worth the drive.
