 January 18th, 2006

When I was down in L.A. for the Rosebowl, (did I mention the Longhorns won that???), I got to play a little golf since the weather was so nice. We were supposed to play some private elite course but my contact screwed me over. Instead we found a course that was in the Top 100 course you can play... Lost Canyons is in Simi Valley about 45 minutes from L.A. and I was looking forward to playing such a "great" course. I'm not sure what the criteria is to get into the top 100 but it must be pretty easy. I'm not saying this was a bad golf course but nothing to blow you away by.

Here's a photo recap of my day at Lost Canyons Golf Course ...

Here is the opening hole at Lost Canyons in Simi Valley just out of L.A., a short par 4.

Lost Canyons had some great looks at the Mountains, and was very very hilly.

Here's the 9th hole, I really need to get to the clubhouse because the big dog of nature is calling.

Now that "nature" has taken it's course back to the golf course where I am playing like what I just did.

Here's a look at the 16th hole a tough uphill par 4 that is only about 330 but hard as hell.

Finally the 18th hole, a big downhill par 4 that feels like it's about 600 yards thanks to it being cart path only all day.

So here is my overall rating for Lost Canyons Golf Course...
Staff/
Service:
2.5 Balls. The service wasn't bad but it seemed like they were understaffed because of all the rain they had. They did get us out on time and the chick working in the restraunt was cool.
Greens:
3 Balls. The greens were actually in good shape after a big rain storm, not too mushy and pretty quick.
.
Fairways:
2 Balls. I hate cart path only, and their fairways didn't drain all that great, plus there were one or two areas the mud was sliding a bit.
Price:

This course is charging this much because they are in Golf Digest as a great course. Not a great course.

Overall
Rating:

2.5 Balls. This is a decent track that you can play, but one of the 100 best in the country I think not. I was glad it rained because it kept a bunch of people away, otherwise it would have been a long, long day.
