September 26th, 2006

What a great weekend!!!!!!! My employed, married EX-roommate took me to Torrey Pines for my birthday. It's a golf course that I have been wanting to play for years. Let me tell you, it was well worth the wait. I was excited getting to play not only another PGA Tour golf course, but in two years a U.S. Open golf course. The course is a Muni, but probably the best Muni in the entire world (even though there were shitheads in jean shorts and tee shirts, but still an awesome track).

Here's a photo recap of my day at Torrey Pines ....

Here we are in lovely San Diego, at Torrey Pines golf course. They play the Buick Open there, and in 2008 the U.S. Open there, this in the first hole a par 4 into the wind.

This is a look at the par 3, 4th hole. Sure it looks easy, but into the wind makes this a long hole.

This is one of the coolest par 5 you will ever play. Plenty of risk reward if you take it right over the tree which I did and made par on the hole.

The number 8 hole is an uphill par 3 that plays at about 170 yards, and you don't want to miss left otherwise you might hit dumbasses who drive on Par 3's.

The par 3's are really cool at Torrey Pines, they are all really tough, and reward you for good shots.

Here we are at the finishing hole, a par 5 that has a lake protecting the green. In 2008, they are going to make this awesome par 5 into what could be the hardest par 4 in the universe.

So here is my overall rating for Torrey Pines ...
Staff/
Service:
2 Balls. Not really the friendliest people in the golf shop, and you don't even pay for your round in there. You just pay for carts. They make it really tough. You have to pay for golf one place, carts in another, and range balls in another.
Greens:
3 Balls. Really tough greens, very fast and in very good shape. I didn't like where they placed the pins. Right on hills which I do believe is against what the USGA regulates.
.
Fairways:
3 Balls. Great shape. Lots and lots of roll on tee shots. I like when courses aren't watered down in the middle of summer or the beginning of fall. HINT HINT local courses.
Price:

Ok, so if your a resident of San Diego it's like 30 bucks to play, but if your not. Then it goes anywhere from $170-200. Plus sometimes you have to stay at the Lodge.

Overall
Rating:

3 Balls. I can't really say anything bad about Torrey Pines because I had such a good time. I just wish they made it a little easier to get on rather than jumping through all the hoops to get a round of golf in at a nice golf course.
