Decorating Williams Manor For Christmas
Part 1
November 11th, 2008
Decorating for the Christmas holiday is quite a chore at Williams Manor. My wife and I turn the inside of our home and our backyard into a winter wonderland (why do the front yard when you never actually see it? We do the backyard because our entire house looks out at it and we can enjoy our winter forest!)
Today we present part one of the multi-week process of decorating for the holidays. We always have the house decked out by Thanksgiving with full Christmas regalia (because, after all, Thanksgiving is the official start of the Christmas holiday and Thanksgiving decorations kinda suck).
With less than 3 weeks to go until Thanksgiving we begin in my wife’s garage which houses all of our Christmas decorations, packed safely away since last year. To give you an idea of how high and wide this pile is, I posed with it.

The entire area of decorations consumes 12 feet to the ceiling, 12 feet across and 6 feet deep of the garage wall. You do the math, but I think that’s 1 billion square feet of boxed Christmas decorations.

And so that means that the first step for 2008 decorating is a shopping spree! My wife and I went out Sunday morning and literally bought a truck load of new decorations.

Through the miracle of time-lapsed photography you get to see how I expertly fit the new truck load of decorations into our Christmas corner of the garage.

So what’s new this year? Our backyard will feature this illuminated grapevine dog that looks just like our white German Shepherd, Nellie.

You may have heard me mention that we think our 6 foot tall Santa has a broken finger and will have to be replaced as our traditional greeter this year. We’ll find out for sure next week when we begin unpacking, but we have already purchased a possible replacement, this 5 foot tall clothed snowman.

This gaudy looking thing is actually a gorgeous indoor wall wreath which will perfectly accent our family room (trust me, you’ll see when it’s all done)

We also bought a ton of new crap to hang in our windows which we’ll be able to see from the house and will also illuminate the front of the house as well.
We’ve already set aside all of next weekend to get cracking on decorating. That way, we have the weekend before Thanksgiving to use as a final, last minute backup before we begin entertaining for the holidays! Next week, photos of the process of unpacking and setting up! Maybe I’ll accidently puncture myself!
