Rob & Janell's 5 Year Anniversary Trip to Vegas
August 24th, 2007

After not traveling for a while as my wife and I enjoyed our new house and got our puppy Shep, the German Shepherd up to speed, we have made up for lost time this summer by getting away quite a bit. So much so that we’re tired of traveling (except for the fact that the best thing about Sacramento is leaving it). Our most recent trip was the week before Labor Day to Las Vegas.

On Friday, August 24th my wife and I began our vacation by celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary with a home made romantic dinner at home, complete with flower petals on the dining room table and a perfectly prepared (by me of course) steak au poivre.

This is the look of a man satisfied with the meal he’s prepared and a woman married to a great guy. (She’s great too, of course).

And this is the look of a man who knows that someone feels left out by the proceedings

Yep…it’s Shep, the German Shepherd who has decided he needs some attention. Usually, he’s not allowed near the dinner table, but this is a special occasion so I indulged him.

Over the weekend I played golf for a couple of days, including at Dark Horse in Auburn where signs are posted everywhere that it’s rattlesnake season. I don’t know who committed the act of vandalism portrayed in this picture but it certainly isn’t funny, is it?

We made our way to Las Vegas and immediately met up with new friend of the show, Pete Rose, the all time hits leader in Major League baseball. He and I shopped together at the Forum shops in Las Vegas. He’s shy, so I only took a picture of his white hat, there in the lower right corner.

This visit, we stayed in one of the suites at the Venetian, complete with multi rooms, televisions over the bar and a huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub.

Speaking of the tub, here is our newest popular recurring photographic theme, me in the tub, with nipple!

Between the bedroom and bathroom is a giant closet on one side and a table and mirror on the other, which my wife quickly filled up with her girl stuff.

The rooms come with a fridge, which we filled up with the essentials of Vodka and tequila, and we also brought some wine as well. Hey…it’s Vegas, what do you expect?

Our view included the only golf course on the Las Vegas Strip, at the Wynn hotel. To play the course, you need to stay at the Wynn AND pay $500. From what I could see from our room, the course does look like fun but for more money than Pebble Beach? I am still not sold yet…

x

I took this picture because a few weeks ago some idiot listener wrote in and said that we would hate the Venetian because of all the noise from the construction going on. As I said on the air, we don’t stay in crappy rooms so we didn’t hear a damn thing, even though construction was going on non-stop on their new second tower.

x

Here are my wife, Janell, and I capturing us in front of our view.

x

On our first night, we dined at the B&B Ristorante, one of chef Mario Batali’s restaurants in Vegas. It was an incredible Italian meal, absolutely top notch.

x

Since it was 107 degrees every day, most of our afternoons were spent shopping and dining. These pictures were taken at Olives in the Bellagio shops, a great restaurants with views of their famous fountains. Look at the size of that burger!

x

This is me posing next to a Louis Vuitton golf bag…price tag $8500. No, I did not buy it.

X

We did buy a lot of great stuff though, some of it pictured here just to drive listener Mary insane. She is the moron who had the audacity to tell me, via email, a few weeks back, how I should spend my hard earned money. Here you go, Mary, two new $3000 Prada purses for my wife and two new pairs of patent leather Prada sneakers for me, costing $500 each. We also dropped a few grand on some Versace suits for me too, Mary so bite me. Still.

x

While we were out blowing thousands of dollars, we also stopped by the Casino bar at the Wynn to celebrate our one year anniversary of discovering Cognac Iced tea, a beverage I continue to be addicted to. Recipe available on my recipes page.

x

On day three, we had room service lunch which led us to discover that the room service in the Venetian is flipping awesome! We ultimately had 3 breakfasts, a lunch, a dinner and two snacks via room service and they were all fantastic.

x

Speaking of room service, I took this picture of the menu for Arnie…check this out, they actually deliver Krispy Kreme donuts to your room!

x

One of the shows we saw was Wayne Brady’s improv at the Venetian. He is hysterical, but sings too much during his show. It was fun, but could have been better.

x

Before Wayne Brady we ate at the Aquaknox, an amazing seafood restaurant in the Venetian which served us fantastic scallops and the greatest chicken my wife and I have ever tasted.

x

Another great meal we had while in Vegas was at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in Caesar’s where I had an awesome shrimp dish pictured here.

x

Here are the infamous Cirque De Soleil photos discussed in this week’s soapbox. Read the column, it’s worth it.

x

We also went back to Corsa Cucina, a great Italian restaurant inside the Wynn, home to amazing meatballs and this fantastic lobster pasta dish.

x

Oh yeah, and they serve homemade donuts for dessert…filled with chocolate. Incredible.

x

So there it is, our 5 year anniversary trip to Las Vegas, complete with my wife’s butt, just to piss off all of the feminists and hand-wringing idiot listeners.

x

The trip ended when we came home and picked up Shep. Sometimes he stays at home, sometimes, like this trip, he goes to an amazing resort in the woods where he runs around all day, everyday with a bunch of other dogs on 18 tree-lined acres. This is Shep being pathetic and exhausted on the way back home.
