Rich Rob... Poor You...

Hundreds of you people call me during the show asking "How can I be as incredibly rich and successful as you are Rob?"

Well, the answer is . . .You Can't.

Truth is, Everyone defines rich and successful in different ways. Dawn would think she was both if she had no money, but she was directly responsible for every child in the world having a lollipop. Arnie would define rich as still having room on a credit card, while successful would mean no creditor knew where he lived.

For reasons that would take too long to explain, I am limited in what type of specific financial advice I can give you to become as rich and successful as me, but I can help. Since I am actually, a reasonably nice guy, I have chosen to do so here, so pay attention. I will give you some guidelines, things to think about, and books to consult. Beyond that, you will have to do the work. That being said, let's get right to it.

Becoming Rich

This is the most challenging of the three. I know many people who are quite wealthy, but not rich. They wake up everyday and live meaningless lives with no joy. They take for granted their expensive cars and big homes and never appreciate the envy of others.

I also know a lot of middle class people who are quite rich. They fill their days with the joy of their children, the love of their spouses and the contentment of doing their best while trying to achieve more.

You can become rich only by being truthful with yourself. This is why most people in America aren't rich, successful or wealthy. It starts right here. You must sit down and honestly evaluate the following:

1) Your Personal Relationships - Are they truly healthy to you? Do you surround yourself with people that make you feel good, challenge you and inspire you? Or do you spend your time with negative people who reinforce negative images and things around you? Do you have at least ONE person you can rely on for total support and honesty?

2) Your Career - Are you doing what you want to do? If not, are you working towards that goal, or are you just telling yourself that? Do you wake up every morning excited about going to work? If not, why not? Have you created a life of "Have-to?" Do you "Have-to" go to this crappy job everyday? If so, what are YOU doing to change that?

3) Your Spirituality - Are you comfortable with your place in the universe? Are you prepared for death? Not just yours, but the people and animals close to you? Do you have a clear understanding of why bad things happen to good people?

4) Your Motivations - What is it that truly drives you? Is it making money or hitting the perfect golf shot? Is it being hugged by your kids everyday of being the life of the party?

5) Your Flaws - We all have them. What are yours? Are you overly concerned with what people think of you? Are you lazy? Do you lie and/or cheat? Are you a slob?

If you can be honest with yourself about each of these areas in your life, you can begin to make the changes necessary to becoming rich, successful and wealthy. Once you have answered the questions honestly, go back and read your answers. Start changing what has to be changed in order for you to LIKE the answers.
