Wine Reviews

Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of November 13th, 2005...

Alexander Valley 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon

Description: Wine Spectator Magazine recently released their annual Cab report, rating the 2002 vintage as exceptional (up there with the 1999's). Since then, a few wineries have begun to release their 2003. Some wineries still haven't released their '02 cabs, while others are getting ready to unveil the '03. The cycle for cab releases is about 18 months.

How to Get it: Alexander Valley is a mid-level Cab that is very accessible and affordable for many. This bottle was purchased at Sam's Club and can also be found at many grocery stores and wine shops.

How Much: It's about $11 at Sam's, $15 in stores.

My Thoughts:
This is what you would expect from a $15 cab. It's thin with a bite, which is a hard combination to achieve, and not a very desirable one. To be frank, this wine tastes cheap. It's not horrible, and for the price it's ok, but it's also not a very good cab.

Overall Score: The price helps its' rating, but I wouldn't recommend this wine. There's no reason to save money when the wine you get isn't very good. Despite its' low price, I give this 1 ½ vines.
