Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of February 8th...
BERINGER ALLUVIUM BLANC 2006

Description: Beringer is a well known Napa winery that produces seemingly 1,500 different types of wine every year, ranging from White Zin for $5 to a fantastic reserve cabernet for $100. This Alluvium is a white wine blend of different grapes.
How and when I drank it: Saturday night, February 9, 2008
How to get it: While Beringer is reasily available almost everywhere (even most 7-11 stores) this particular bottle is harder to find. Sometimes available at Bevmo and Trader Joe’s, always findable at the winery in Napa (and on their website)
How Much:It’s about $15 per bottle, sometimes dramatically lower.
My Thoughts: The last time I had the red wine alluvium, the thinness gave me a headache, so I was reticent to try this version, but was pleasantly surprised. Mixing Chardonnay, viognier, sauvignon blanc and Semillon, this unique white wine blend is crisp, refreshing and just fruity enough. Most of the fruit flavors are from the nectarine/tangerine family and there is a slight hint of grass I could do without on the finish, no doubt from the sauvignon blanc.
Overall Score: I wouldn’t open this wine in the heart of winter, but if you can find a bottle, this would be a great chilled white wine on a warm summer day. For the price, it delivers a very nice glass to start an afternoon, although I find that it tires quickly (open it for friends and make sure everyone gets one glass before moving on to something else. 3 ½ vines
