Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of March 6th, 2006...

B.R. COHN 1999 SONOMA VALLEY OAK HILL ESTATE CABERNET

Description: This is a newly released 1999 Cab which was aged for two years in French Oak barrels and then held at the winery for an additional couple of years. 1999 was a great year for Napa reds, so it was exciting to see this wine at Sam's Club. They made only 900 cases, not a big lot.

How to Get it: Sam's, wine specialty stores and the winery.

How Much: It's about $75 per bottle.

My Thoughts: Disappointing. It's not a bad red wine, but it certainly does not command $75. This red is fruity with acceptable flavors of raspberry and currant, but it is also thin. It drinks as though it has been aged poorly. There is no full body like a great Cab should have and no tannic bite.

Overall Score: Not even enough body for a $25 cab. This is a $10 bottle of wine, lacking character. 1 vine.
