Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of June 17th... DAVID ARTHUR CABERNET NAPA 2004
Description: David Arthur is one of those Napa wineries that is described as being somewhere between "distant" and Stand-offish. They let almost no-one visit their winery, they charge triple digits for their wines, they have a long waiting list to buy their wines direct and they almost always score high in the taste tests. In other words, A lot of people think that David Arthur thinks their crap don't stink. I, by the way, generally love their wines How to Get it: It's available at some BevMos, some wine merchants, on-line, many top tier restaurants and at the winery in Napa if you're lucky How Much: At the winery, $100 per bottle. My Thoughts: The thing I love consistently about David Arthur wines is its smoothness; the wine always has a smooth vanilla finish that makes it approachable. The 2004, like usual is full of dark fruit cherry like flavors and a plum backdrop. The problem is this wine is VERY tannic, thus producing a big bite at the end and steam-rolling the smooth end. If this doesn't soften with aging, this will be a great wine wasted. Overall Score: For the price and reputation, I am not enthused. 2 vines
