Wine Reviews

Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of February 6th, 2006...

Flora Springs Trilogy 2006

Description: The best red wines from the Napa Valley in my opinion are not Cabs, but rather meritage blends like the Phelps Insignia or any great Claret wine. Trilogy is Flora Springs' meritage, a winery that has been inconsistent of late, but seems to be resurging.

How to Get it: This wine is found in wine specialty stores, some of the warehouse stores, some grocery stores, in many restaurants, and from the winery, right next to Dean and Deluca in the Napa Valley.

How Much: It's about $50 per bottle.

My Thoughts: Far from being a full-bodied, blow-you-away blend like the Coppola Rubicon is, this is still a nice red wine that has faint hints of vanilla and chocolate and emphasis on earthy flavors that blend together nicely. For a meritage, it is thin with a medium finish, making it a great pick for a Merlot or White Zin lover to try if they're looking to be bold.

Overall Score: This is simply not a bad wine and not a great wine (which for $50 it should b). It is a unique wine, however, and one that has place (all be it smal) in my collection. I give Flora Springs Trilogy a score of 3 Vines.
