Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of August 14th, 2006...

J. LOHR SEVEN OAKS CABERNET 2003

Description: This is an inexpensive wine made along California's central coast. It is in a class, economically and qualitatively speaking, with Kendall Jackson and Rodney Strong, though not as well known.

How to Get it: It's sold by the bottle at Bevmo, wine stores and many grocery stores. It is also available by the glass at many restaurants, including PF Changs.

How Much: Per bottle, it's about $15, At P.F. Chang's, It's about $8 per glass.

My Thoughts: P.F. Chang's recently destroyed their wine list. It was once a fairly impressive batch of choices that now boasts complete garbage, which is why this wine may actually seem better than it is. For a $15 bottle this is a pretty good red wine. It will not blow you away or impress you, but it is also not thin or overly fruity as many lower end Cabs can be. It's fine. Just fine. Sadly, it's the best wine on Chang's new wine list, which as I understand it is a by-product of a corporate decision. That executive should be fired immediately.

Overall Score: This is a wine that's just fine at a price that is just fine. 3 vines.
