Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of April 24th, 2005...

Jordan Cabernet 2001

Description: The 2001 vintage of reds in Napa was the best since 1999 and overall was excellent. Unlike 1997 however, not every single red from every single winery was a safe bet in the 2001.

How to Get it:
I had this bottle at Chart House in Monterey. You can get it at the winery in Napa, some grocery stores, wine speciality stores and most restaurants.

How Much:
At the Chart House, I paid $90 per bottle. It is generally a $35-45 bottle in stores, $75-100 in restaurants.

My Thoughts:
Jordan Cab is always a solid choice which should result in a big red wine with vanilla overtones and some burgundy/chocolate finish to it. The 2001 seems to have a little more chocolate and less vanilla than past Jordans. It drinks smoothly and gets better as it opens up. Not he best Jordan has done, but still a good bottle.

Overall Score: Jordan can do better, but no one with a taste for good red wine is going to turn their nose up at this. I can’t say that it’s worth $100 in a restaurant or $45 at a store, nor would I stock up on it. I would however drink it again if my choices were limited. On my 5 vine scale, I give this wine 3.
