Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of September 16th... Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
Description: Jordan was once a standard-bearer of affordable but elegant Napa Valley Cabernets and is still found on many restaurant wine lists, sometimes for as much as $15-20 per glass. In recent years, however, beginning with the 2001 vintage, the Jordan Cab has become thin, undeveloped and lame. Once one of my favorites, Jordan has fallen into the same trap as B.V. (Beaulieu); a formerly great Napa winery, now producing crap consistently. How and when I drank it: Saturday afternoon September 15, beginning at 5pm After decanting it at noon. How to get it: Jordan is found at most grocery stores and Bevmos, many wine merchants, on-line on their own website and on many restaurants wine lists in the Northern Nevada and California area. How Much: At the winery, $50 per bottle. My Thoughts: From the moment I decanted this bottle I was weary of a bad drink. It smelled musty, thin and grassy, all bad aromas for a young cab. After 5 hours of decanting, little had changed and the flavor confirmed my fears. The red wine tastes thin, lacks body and delivers an earthy soil flavor that is not pleasant. Jordan continues to disappoint with a Cab that tastes as though it should come from a $9 bottle, not a $50 bottle. This wine tastes like something that has been filtered through my socks into a dirty bathtub. Overall Score: When you buy a cheap bottle of Cab you expect it either to be too fruity or too thin. It is so sad to see such a formerly great Cab deliver the latter (along with some pretty good headaches if you actually drink too much of this wine) 1 vine. Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 =
