Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of March 13th, 2006...

KUNDE ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2001

Description: When I was visiting Napa Valley regularly in 2001-2002, there were about 300 wineries. Now you can't throw a dead cat out the window without hitting one of 400+ wineries there. I've never been to, or heard of Kunde but thought I would give them a try.

How to Get it: Sam's, wine specialty stores and the winery.

How Much: It's about $20 per bottle.

My Thoughts: Non-descript, really. This is a very basic, simple, Cab lacking character. It's not a bad wine, but it also is far from memorable. There's very little bite and/or flavor to it, other than your basic fruity notes. No oak, no vanilla, no real body. It's not a thin red wine, but it also has no muscle to it. It just sits there.

Overall Score: For $20, this is a very plain Cabernet. You will impress no one with this wine, but you also won't hate it. At $10 I could recommend it as a "swill" wine, the kind of bottle you open when you might only want a glass or two. At $20, it's just below my ability to recommend. 2 vines.
