Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of January 17th, 2006...

McManis Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Description: I discovered McManis 3 years ago during the 2001 vintage and found it to be an amazing bottle of wine, especially for the price. Since then, I have been experimenting with other wines and haven't had a bottle in about 18 months so I thought I should check in on it and see if it's still an amazing value.

How to Get it: This wine is most grocery stores.

How Much: It's about $10 per bottle.

My Thoughts: Not at all what I remember. This wine was thin and lacking the body I enjoy in a cab, and the body I remember the 2001 vintage having. It still drinks nicely and easily and would actually be an excellent bottle of cab to serve to a merlot lover. This wine is fruity with cherry and raspberry flavors and a little spice on the end. It's not bad, it's just not as great as I remember it once being.

Overall Score: For the price, this is still a great value. You're getting a solid, drinkable red, even if it is lacking character and depth. I wouldn't take it to a dinner party, but I'd open it up for a few glasses one weeknight. I give this wine 3 Vines.
