Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of October 20th...
PRIDE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006

Description: Pride remains one of my favorite wineries and holds a special place in my heart as the place where I proposed to my wife more than 6 years ago, standing on the top of Spring Mountain, directly split between Napa and Sonoma County.
After a fairly stellar 2005 Cab crop, this is my very first taste of a 2006.
This wine is 70% Napa Valley, 30% Sonoma county grapes made up of 88% cabernet, 10% merlot and 2% petit verdot.
How and when I drank it: Friday, October 17, 2008 at my house.
How to get it: Pride is found on many high end restaurant wine lists, at some wine merchants and on-line and via the winery in Napa, but is hard to get.
How Much: The bottle is $65 from the winery
My Thoughts: I opened this bottle the day after I received my case. This is as young as a big cab gets from the bottle, and I was blown away. The wine is not tight at all and already presents itself as a balanced, well blended big Napa red. The initial flavors are dark fruit, but they turn quickly to more complex powerful notes of chocolate, vanilla, spice and a big, lush finish. A spectacular wine.
Overall Score: There is no way this wine should be this good this young. Pride wines always deliver quality but this is above and beyond and rivals their 2001, 1999 and 1997 vintages.
