Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of March 30th, 2009...
CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON INDIAN WELLS 2006

Description: Back we go this week to my on-going attempt to find lower priced, accessible wines that offer quality without breaking your bank. Ironically, it is in these more challenging economic times when we all need a drink now and then, yet many have a hard affording one!
A longstanding favorite of mine, I have been drinking Ste. Michelle wines for more than a decade; as their prestige has risen, their prices have not and they have been able to consistently produce quality wines priced well below their quality.
How and when I drank it: Friday March 27, 2009, at my house.
How to get it: They sell their wine on their website and at their Washington winery, and it can also be found at most grocery stores and Bevmos and some wine specialty stores. I often see a wide array of Ste. Michelle wines at Trader Joes and Costco as well.
How Much: The winery sells it for $18 per bottle
My Thoughts: The Indian Wells vineyard has always been a step above the standard Ste. Michelle Cabernet ($12) and this vintage is no different. The 2006 Indian wells Cab produces a more balanced feel, highlighting dark fruit flavors like plum and black cherry, offset nicely by some herbal and velvet vanilla notes.
Overall Score:This is a very good wine, made better by a sub-$20 price tag. This is a wine that could easily mask as a $40 Napa cab, and in times like these two bottles of quality for that price is a steal.
