Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of January 9th, 2006...

Ferrari-Carano Tresor 2001

Description: Long one of my five favorite wineries, Ferrari-Carano produces the Tresor each year as it's high end red wine blend, or meritage. Unlike its' other wines, this one comes labeled in a flashy red/lava/sunset setting to separate itself from the other wines they produce.

How to Get it: This wine is surprisingly easy to obtain from wine specialty stores, some grocery stores and certainly through the winery website.

How Much: It's about $50 per bottle.

My Thoughts:
Ferrari-Carano is consistently praised, year after year, for its' fume blanc, chardonnay and merlot. After that, their wines are hit/miss. I have never been as impressed with the Tresor as others, and it certainly has never stood up to the Carano Merlot. The 2001 is no different. This wine is thin, lacking in body and just not very impressive. Buy 2 bottles of their merlot and you'll be much happier.

Overall Score: Even if this were a $10 bottle of wine, I'd have a hard time recommending it, but at $50 a pop, this is a grave disappointment for a Carano lover like myself. It gets 1 Vine.
