Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of January 28th...
WHITEHALL LANE 2004 NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Description: B.V. had a sale and decided to try their latest offerings to see if they have turned things around.
How and when I drank it: Saturday night, January 19th at Hawk’s Restaurant in Granite Bay, California a fairly new, fantastic upscale dining establishment that I HIGHLY recommend.
How to get it: Whitehall Lane has a prominent winery along highway 29 in Napa and is a fairly accessible wine throughout most wine stores, bevmo, some grocery stores and the winery in Napa.
How Much: Hawk’s sells it by the glass for $17, a bottle at the winery will cost you $40. They also have a silver anniversary reserve bottle that costs twice as much and is excellent.
My Thoughts: 2004 was a stellar vintage for Napa cab producers who know what they’re doing and Whitehall has always beena solid, decent red wine maker. I would never place them amongst the elite, but since they are charging a very reasonable $40 per bottle, a very good wine is a very acceptable price/quality ratio. This 2004 was smooth, rich and filled with subtle fruit, finished with a little oak and vanilla. Very nice.
Overall Score: I found the wine to very approachable and ready to drink and very pleasant. A great wine for a Tuesday night and an acceptable one for a fancy Saturday dinner. At $40 per bottle, this wine sores 4 vines.
