Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of September 6th, 2006... COLUMBIA CREST MERLOT GRAND ESTATES 2003
Description: For a second review in a row, I have made an effort to review a lower priced wine. I have always said that there are plenty of great wines under $20, so I am here to help. Columbia Crest is a Washington state winery that consistently produces a few great bottles every year. It seems like they make 250 different wines so make sure you find the gems and leave the swill for other, less informed wine drinkers. How to Get it: It's available in almost all grocery stores, bevmo and almost anywhere wine is sold. No kidding, I've seen it at convenience stores. How Much: Per bottle, it's about $9, at Bevmo, I paid $8.99. My Thoughts: This is another of those Merlots that would be a great bottle for people who are trying to introduce themselves to red wine. It is fruity and lush so it has a nice full body but isn't overbearing at all. The main flavors are dark fruits like blackberry, plum and raspberry with a little spice at the end of a surprisingly nice finish. For regular wine drinkers, this may be too fruity, but it's an acceptable bottle for refined palettes on a Tuesday night.
