Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of June 25th... CONCANNON 2004 RESERVE MERLOT
Description: What a great conundrum for my senses. I am both a Napa snob and a home grown East Bay boy, hailing from Pleasanton, right next door to the home of Concannon's Livermore vineyard. How to Get it: It's available at most grocery stores in the Bay Area and some in Northern California and Nevada, some BevMos, some wine merchants, on-line, and at the winery in Livermore How Much: At the winery, $23 per bottle. My Thoughts:Surprisingly, this wine actually reminds me of Merlots from Napa in the late 90's. There was a time that Napa winemakers remembered that Merlot is supposed to be lighter, spicier and smoother than cab. Nowadays, most Napa merlots try to be cabs, while this reserve from Concannon is softly fruity with notes of peppers and a nice smooth, but not thin finish. I drank it with a plate of meats, mild cheeses and breads and it was perfect. Overall Score: For the price and delivered mild flavors, 4 vines CONCANNON 2004 RESERVE MERLOT =
