Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of January 16th... CONCHA Y TORO MERLOT 2004 CASA CONCHOx
My Sincere, personal thanks to our family friend and huge fan of the show, Connie, who personally brought me this bottle, hoping to expand my horizons. Description: One of the fastest growing and most impressive wine regions globally is and has been Chile, where this bottle comes from. Chile's climate allows them to produce some nice, fruity, spicy reds that often come with the trademark of an aroma of peppers, both bell and spiced. How to Get it: Bevmo carries it locally and on their website. It is also available through a number of accessible retailers, including Target and walmart stores that carry wide wine selections. How Much: About $15. My Thoughts: This is not a merlot in the Napa vein, but more in the Chilean vein. It is dark in color and in taste, eminating dark cherry, leather and some smoke qualities. It has a wonderful aroma of bread when first opened, which turn to peppers after the first taste. Being a Napa snob, I was very pleasantly surprised by this bottle and for the very reasonable price, I can easily recommend it. Overall Score: This merlot is fruity with body and spice, making it a merlot for red wine lovers. For $15, and sometimes less, this is a great value wine and certainly one to have in your cellar for that Tuesday night drink. 4 vines.
