Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of September 6th, 2005...
Dynamite North Coast 2002 Merlot

Description: For a few years, the Dynamite wines were in my regular rotation as "swill" wines, meaning they were inexpensive but good. Then came the 2000 vintage, which sucked and I stayed away. This is the first I've tried it since.
How to Get it: I got this at Sam's Club, but it's everywhere; wine shops, warehouse stores, grocery stores.
How Much: It's $12 at Sam's, between $12-18 in stores.
My Thoughts: This is one of those merlots that is fruity and presents a little more than you expect from the price. It's not a great wine, but it's damn better than a traditional $10 bottle of merlot. This is a good wine for people still becoming accustomed to reds. It's fruity, with a lot of cherry, blackberry and cassis flavors.
Overall Score: For the price, it's good to very good. It's a nice bottle to open on a Tuesday night when you just want some red wine but aren't committed to a whole bottle of great wine. You won't find this unpleasant, but it also won't knock your socks off. On my 5 vine scale, I'm give this 3 vines.
