Wine Reviews

Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of June 12th, 2005...

Kenwood Merlot 2002

Description: People often confuse Kenwood and Ravenswood and their bottles are even somewhat similar, although Kenwood for years has actually has had no label, it simply paints/etches onto its' bottle and is known for its Jack London Wolf portrait. Kenwood is a moderately to low priced wine that can produce good to great wine on occasion.

How to Get it: I got this bottle from Sam's Club for $17. It is available from the most wine specialty stores and grocery stores.

How Much: It is generally a $20-25 bottle in stores.

My Thoughts:
This is not a typical, or for that matter a very good Merlot. It is spicy on the tongue and not very smooth going down. As the bottle opens up the flavor changes to a musty prune taste.

Overall Score: Since it's not expensive, it probably passes as a decent wine to many, but not to me. This is putrid. On my 5 vine scale, I give this wine 2 vines
