Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of April 27th, 2009...
SHILOH ROAD 2006 NAPA VALLEY MERLOT

Description: Given to me by a friend, this wine was described to me as a “smooth, easy to drink red wine.” This friend is a Pinto fan, and doesn’t enjoy big, chewy Napa red wines. As for Shiloh road, the winery is based in Sonoma County and they generally produce mid ranged priced wines. If they have a website, I can’t find it for the life of me.
How and when I drank it: Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at my house.
How to get it: Bevmo carries it in stores and online; Shiloh road is also featured on restaurant wine lists ranging from the Melting Pot to some Ruth’s Chris steakhouses. A simple google search for the winery name produced plenty of on-line retailers with the wine available.
How Much: Bevmo lists the bottle at $16
My Thoughts: Exactly as promised, this is what I call a mass-appeal red wine. This is the wine you open when you want to please everyone and serve a red. The flavors are well balanced and not tannic at all. There is no bite, a smooth finish and flavors of light berries, a little vanilla and some light cocoa. It’s a very nice, very simple, very pleasant wine. This would be a wonderful way to transition someone from white zin or pinots into bigger reds.
Overall Score: For just $16, this is a very good wine worthy of having on hand. It’s easy to drink, very pleasant and despite its lack of big body, it performed beautifully with my lamb dinner.
