Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of August 3rd, 2009...

BONTERRA ROSE 2008

Description: I couldn’t let an summer heat wave pass without indulging in last year’s fad, the new resurgence of chilled, well made red rose wines. For years, Rose (or blush) wines have only been made by low-end, horrible wine makers who have produced low end, horrible wines. Recently blends of grapes producing light reds best served chilled have re-emerged with surprisingly high quality.

Bonterra is an all organic winery in Mendocino County and this is their second stab at a rose, this time blending Syrah, Sangiovese and zinfandel.

How and when I drank it: Saturday, July 25th at my house.

How to get it: The winery sells it online and it is found at some grocery stores and wine shops as well.

How Much: The winery lists the bottle at $13

My Thoughts: For those who don’t want to smack their tongue at the dry, off balance finish of an unbalanced rose, this is the wine for you. Fruity, with flavors of strawberry, cherry and some lighter fruits, this rose finishes beautifully with a vanilla end. Very lush but not heavy. A refreshing, excellent easy red wine.

Overall Score: A great wine for people who love white wine but don’t love reds…this is a wine to bridge the gap, priced perfectly.
4 Vines.
