Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of October 2nd, 2005...
Capiaux Pinot Noir 2002
Pisoni Vineyard

Description: Ever since the movie "Sideways" Pinot has become the new Merlot. People drink it because it's cool, not because they understand it. Pinot is generally a lighter red wine, not as full or tannic as cabernet, the king of reds.
How to Get it: The winery sells it in Napa. I received this bottle as a gift.
How Much: It's $40 in the stores and winery, as much as $150 if you find it on a restaurant wine list.
My Thoughts: Once again I am reminded why I don't drink much Pinot. This is a fine Pinot. It's neat. Whatever. Pinot in general lacks the body of Cabs, the fruitiness of Merlots and richness of Syrah. This one is no different. The flavors here are fine, filled with light fruity berry flavors (a merlot would exude heavier fruit notes), and a
butter/lame vanilla finish. Thin and typical of a pinot.
Overall Score: This is a good Pinot, which makes it a lame syrah or merlot in my world. I have tried Pinot after Pinot and just can't bring myself to care about it. When I want red wine, I want RED wine, not Capri-sun in a wine bottle. I am trying to be fair here for you Pinot lovers, so I am calling this an average Pinot and giving it 3 vines. Enjoy.
