Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives
So here is my wine review for the week of April 6th, 2009...
LUNA VINEYARDS SANGIOVESE 2006

Description: Luna has grown in size and prestige as a Napa winery over the past decade; they make some exceptional wines like their always great Pinot Grigio, but they also have grown too big too fast and find themselves in a sea of inconsistency.
The 2006 Sangiovese is actually a blend of 75% sangiovese, 18% merlot and 7% petit sirah
How and when I drank it: Thursday April 02, 2009, at my house.
How to get it: They sell their wine on their website and at their Napa winery.
How Much: The winery sells it for $25 per bottle
My Thoughts: I was surprised at the explosive sweetness on the tongue at first taste; it was pleasant, not overwhelming or overbearing and a very nice lead in to a more balanced finish of a perfect combination of citrus, chocolate and silky tannic bite.
Overall Score:This is a very nice, perfectly priced big red wine that appeals to anyone who prefers sweet fruit as the base for their reds. It’s one of those wines I love to drink once every 3 months. More than that would be too much but on this rotation the flavor is spectacular.
