Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of June 16th...
Description: I must admit that my new found love of the newer, greater Rose wines has been, on the whole, a disappointment, especially of late. The wines are too dry and unbalanced and the five star (or vine) winner in this ongoing contest of mine remains the Peju Provence for its’ perfect fruity, refreshing sweetness without being too sweet. The last stop on this current campaign of mine leads me to Italy and the Scalabrone winery’s shot at a Tuscan Rose. Made of 40% cabernet, 20% merlot and 20% Sangiovese, the wine is fermented at uber-cool temperatures to bring out the fruity sweetness of the grapes and ideally, eliminate the tannic bite that would cause a Rose to be overly dry.How and when I drank it: Saturday afternoon, June 7th at my house. How to get it:I found bottles at both Sam’s Club and Bevmo as well as various wine merchants on line who stock and sell it. SCALABRONE BOLGHERI ROSATO 2006 =
