Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of July 27th, 2009...

FERRARI CARANO FUME BLANC 2008

Description: Co-owned by the renowned Carano family, which owns seemingly half of Reno, Ferrari Carano has a gorgeous winery in Sonoma that is well worth the drive. Though the winery, in my opinion, has begun producing too many varietals over the past decade (thus thinning their overall quality) they still churn out some excellent wines every year; finding them is the trick.

How and when I drank it: Saturday, July 18th in my penthouse Suite at the Silver Legacy, where the bottle was provided for me.

How to get it: This wine is found almost everywhere; grocery stores, wine shops, some warehouse stores, online, at the winery, etc.

How Much: The winery lists the bottle at $15 but many places sell it for as low as $8.

My Thoughts: A very pleasant, refreshing, crisp white wine with a nice balance. It exhibits some mild citrus, fruit and herb without any being overpowering. On a hot day, a great wine to quench your thirst.

Overall Score: This has been a reliable go-to Carano wine forever; it is terribly inexpensive and always reliable for a simply, well made crisp white wine.
4 Vines.
