Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of July 15th... GEYSER PEAK CHARDONNAY ALEXANDER VALLEY 2005
Description: Geyser Peak is a very accessible, very affordable vintner that can usually be relied on to provide a very mediocre bottle of wine. With Summer in full bloom and temperatures sure to hit triple digits again before fall, it's always nice to have some inexpensive chardonnay on hand to quench your thirst while not weighing you down (like beer) or making you feel guilty about drinking only half a bottle. How to Get it: It's available at most grocery stores in the Bay Area and some in Northern California and Nevada, some BevMos, some wine merchants, on-line, and at the winery in Livermore How Much: At the winery, $13 per bottle. My Thoughts: Chardonnay's genuinely fall into three types; Most today are made with high volumes of toast and oak flavors. Few pull off what I call the "Rombauer" flavor of butter throughout. This bottle of Geyser Peak is the third type; based almost exclusively on fruit and fruity flavors. This is good for refreshing crispness, but bad if you're looking for complexity, body and less sugar. This bottle is sure to give you a headache if you drink more than 2 or 3 glasses. Look for apple, pear and a little citrus Overall Score: For the price, this is a nice, refreshing very fruity white wine. I doubt I would serve it guests, but it does the job on a hot summer afternoon for a glass or two. 3 vines
