Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives

So here is my wine review for the week of September 10th...

Lewis Chardonnay Napa Valley Reserve 2005

Description:As Summer draws to a close, I thought it appropriate to send it off into the sunset with a final Chardonnay review, allowing one last chance to enjoy a nice, cool, white wine on a warm summer evening. I put 5 of the highest rated chardonnay wines of the Summer (according to Wine Spectator Magazine) to the test and deliver to you my favorite. Sadly, my choice is a little pricey but well worth it.

How and when I drank it: Sunday afternoon September 2, beginning at Noon.

How to get it: Lewis Cellars offers wine from their website, and is also available at some wine specialty stores.

How Much: At the winery, $60 per bottle.

My Thoughts: My all time favorite Chardonnay is the Rombauer, known world wide for its unique buttery flavor, offsetting too much fruit or notes that are too heavy on oak. This Lewis wine does a nice job of delivery a near-butter creamy flavor that is rounded out by vanilla and citrus flavors. It’s almost like a less sweet lemon crème brulee.

Overall Score: This is a great Chardonnay that is equally as good as Rombauer, though twice the price. It would be great if Lewis could produce such a Chardonnay consistently year after year. 4 vines.
