So here is my wine review for the week of June 1st, 2009...
LUNA PINOT GRIGIO 2007
Description: Years ago I had lunch with a prominent Napa Valley wine critic and he ordered us a bottle of Luna Pinot Grigio. I politely hid my disgust at his choice, knowing that I didn’t want a white wine…I wanted a big Napa Valley Red! But, he was the host and the “expert” so I suffered silently through one of the best, most refreshing white wines I’ve ever had. Every year since then, I make sure to taste the Luna Grigio, a white wine crisper and more refreshing than a chardonnay. Most wineries produce Grigios that are too thin and taste like grass, not Luna.
How and when I drank it: Friday May 29, 2009, at my house.
How to get it: The winery sells it online and at their Napa location. It is also found occasionally at wine shops and on many restaurant wine lists
How Much: The winery lists the bottle at $18
My Thoughts: The nose on this wine is fruitier than I remember previous years; the taste however remains balanced and refreshing. There is a definite acid citrus influence that keeps the wine from becoming too tart and maintains its easy drinkability.
Overall Score: This is a fantastic warm weather white wine. Served perfectly chilled, this is a very refreshing wine that quenches thirst, drinks easily and tastes great.
