Rob's "Wine of the Week" Archives So here is my wine review for the week of April 2nd... Rombauer Chardonney 2005
Description: For more than a decade, Rombauer Chardonnay has been my "go to" white wine for any and all occasions. Most Napa Chardonnays have gone towards the trend of making white wines with a lot of toast and oak, while Rombauer has stayed true to their trademark, butter. There is no better balanced Chardonnay on the market consistently. How to Get it: It's available at some Bevmos, some grocery stores, most wine merchants, on-line and at the winery in Napa and is found on many restaurant wine lists as well as on their website. How Much: About $30. My Thoughts: Yet another home-run from Rombauer with a twist this year. While once again the Chardonnay delivers the butter you expect, this year there is an added element of some vanilla on the finish which makes the wine every so slightly sweeter than usual, but not disruptively so. Smooth and silky, a true winner and a great white wine to have around for Summer. Overall Score: This is a great wine which you can drink now or save for 2-3 years, although it will get sweeter with aging. 4 ½ vines.
