"Doggy Daddy" Tips from Rob...
For training and raising a dog, the Monks of New Skeete can't be beat. These are not books to be skimmed, through, but rather to be read. You will be a better person and a much better dog trainer for it. Not all of the things written are right in my opinion, but it's a great reference. Here are two books that I recommend...
If you need to call in a professional, I can recommend one of those to you as well. While Shep is a wonderful, loving dog, he became a handful when he hit is "teenage" years at the age of 9 months. These are the trying times of dog ownership, especially with a smart, stubborn breed like a German Shepherd. To be safe, we called in 4PAWS of Roseville to assist us. I was surprised at the little things they saw and helped us fixed and I was impressed at their scope of knowledge. We saw immediate results. In the interest of full disclosure, I'll tell you the following; I found 4PAWS by accident on the internet. We paid full price for their services and I am not recommending them to you in this space for any reason other than I believe in them. They are a group of all female trainers, which I find to be highly desirable. Women in general are more patient and understanding of the quirks of dogs. Since working with them, one of the head honchos of 4PAWS, Kelly, has become a friend which also has nothing to do with my recommendation but I feel better having disclosed it. You can learn more about them at their website... Finally, many of you are aware that I feed Shep an all natural diet (people food). It's a lot more work and a lot more expensive, but the results of feeding him the way he would eat in the wild can't be argued with. His health is unquestionably wonderful, his coat is shiny, teeth clean, breath less stinky and disposition better. If you're interested in researching such a diet, try these two books: Natural Health For Dogs & Cats The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care Drop me an email if you have any questions or comments. |
