Congratulations!
You have finally landed on the one page on this entire site (and on the entire internet for that matter) that is purely without bullshit... my soapbox page. There are a lot of times during our show that, whether it's because of time constraints and other obligations, I don't always get to address some issues that I feel don't get the attention they deserve. There are even more times when I just don't feel like waiting until the show the next day to get some things off my chest. Thus, I have started the "Rob's Soapbox" page. If you have clicked on this page looking for someone to coddle your fragile sense of self-esteem, or tell you what you want to hear or to reinforce your outdated world view, then exit this page right now and go somewhere else. If you are in search of the last forum for reason and common sense left in the world, then sit back, relax, and enjoy. I make only one promise with this soapbox page... if you read long enough and often enough, you will eventually be offended. So here's my latest soapbox. February 19th, 2008 AFFIRTMATIVE ACTION: A Great Idea Until Some Black Guy Wants Your Job Affirmative action is the notion (disguised as a public policy) that gives preferences in hiring and/or admission to college to nonwhite applicants under the guise that diversity for its own sake is a net plus. In other words, argue its proponents, since America is and always has been filled with evil white people, the best way to right that wrong is to hand jobs to people based solely on their skin color, dismissing their possible lack of qualifications. Those of us who have opposed affirmative action from its’ inception have argued against it on a variety of fronts:
Affirmative action was created by far-left wing whack jobs as a way to coddle guilty white people into believing that they were “making the evils and wrongs of their fore-fathers right.” As with all forms of class warfare, the argument and cry of the less fortunate, this time veiled under the guise of “racism,” struck a powerful chord with the American people and eventually “affirmative action,” became “normal,” and reasonable in America. In fact, if you were against affirmative action, you were simply dismissed as a racist (even though, of course, there is nothing more racist against minorities that the very notion of affirmative action in the first place)! Along the way, the Clintons (as in President Bill and his wife Hillary) became the standard-bearers of the Democratic Party and at various times have not only endorsed but have expanded and heralded affirmative action as the ultimate equalizer. Throughout the years, the Clintons have dismissed the arguments of countless “angry white guys” who have claimed (with reams of evidence on their side) that a job they deserved and were more qualified for was given to a person of color solely to meet a quota and/or abide by the silliness of affirmative action. The Clinton family has gone so far as to claim publicly that the “disappointment or pain for individual people was a small price to pay for the goal of diversity.” At various times throughout their political lives, both Clintons have sited both the 1974 case of Allan Bakke (from UCD) and the 1995 case of Jennifer Gratz (Michigan) as cases of narrow-minded, misguided, sour-grape filled dolts who simply didn’t understand that sometimes, white people must suffer in silence so that the greater good of “diversity” could be served. How beautifully ironic it is to now watch the disintegration of Hillary Clinton play out before our very eyes as America finally, openly practices “affirmative action,” and sticks it squarely in the eyes of the Clintons. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, you see. Hillary was basically and essentially “promised the job,” of Democratic nominee for president. She is, after all, the wife of the most successful Democratic president since FDR. She is a two-term senator from a major state, a qualified lawyer, and a former resident of the White House. She also has made it clear that she wanted the job, thus, essentially, already filling out her application. Hillary is, for all intents and purposes, the equivalent of that white guy who spent years climbing the ladder (figuratively and literally) in the city fire department who has been told countless times over the years he was being groomed to be the next captain. Alas, in innumerable cities across America for the past four decades those overly-qualified white fire fighters who were practically promised the job were passed over for a less qualified (though still capable) minority so that a quota or notion of affirmative action could be satisfied. When that white guy complained, he was reminded that he was being a racist and told to suffer in silence. Hillary Clinton was “promised” the job and already anointed in her mind, and is now watching her one shot at the presidency be stripped from her by a nation that is essentially handing the chance to a less qualified up-start black man, primarily for the sole reason that he is black…and she and her husband are infuriated (and no doubt the irony is, shall we say, lost on them). Don’t get me wrong; I understand and acknowledge that Barack Obama is a far better speaker, a far more likeable figure and one hell of a politician. Personally, I believe (if I MUST choose between the two) that he is better suited than Hillary Clinton to lead the nation, but my opinion is not what is on trial here. I also understand and acknowledge that Hillary is far less likeable and has a name that America is fatigued with. However, when you truly sit down and examine who and why the Democratic Party is pushing Obama towards the nomination, the answer is resoundingly clear; because it’s just time for an African American to have his shot. Sound familiar? If it doesn’t, then you have probably never been told that your job was being given to someone else because of the color of their skin (and, by default, yours as well). Throughout the primary season, the legions of African American voters who have, for the first time, rallied and voted in record numbers have done so because they finally, truly, actually have a reason to believe that the ultimate glass ceiling for their heritage will be broken. For the first time, it is reasonable to dream that a black man will preside over this nation, and it is motivating people who, in some cases have spent a lifetime being told to accept mediocrity and be glad you have even that. In that sense, the “intention” of affirmative action is being carried out across the nation; a plurality of people are saying “give the job to the black man…and yes, part of the reason is because he’s black.” Simultaneously, of course, the uprising of the hopes of an entire race (and the countless number of white men who are actually leading the way for Obama in voting booths) is being done without a government mandated program, but within the greatest traditions of our nation; competition. American Democrats are being handed two choices and are choosing the one they like better, not because of a quota, demand or issue of being compelled to do so, but solely because they like the guy better. A guy that happens to be black. This is what we call a “Vortex.” In this case, we are seeing, at once, the execution of, and condemnation of, affirmative action. Caught in the middle? The Clinton’s; irony is a sweet reward. This, the very definition and pronouncement of affirmative action, has led the Clintons to resort to overt racism against Obama as their anger and resentment becomes more and more un-hide-able. The number one complaint most of us have with the far-left whack jobs is America is their hypocrisy. Whether it be Hollywood elitists demanding that we all conserve fuel as they globe trot in their private jets and SUV’s, or the Clinton family telling us all to shut-up and take it when a less-qualified minority takes our job, the consequence of hypocrisy has been a long time coming. So, here we stand at the precipice of history; Hillary Clinton will not be the Democratic nominee for president and an African American male will be. Along the way, he will be maligned, attacked, impugned and practically destroyed by a political machine of white people who are so offended that Barack Obama doesn’t understand his “role” in society that it makes them physically wretch at night. To the elitists in our nation, black people should be happy with what we have “given” them and should simply say “thank you” and shut up. The audacity that Obama has the drive, desire, ambition and gumption to go after something “belongs” to a white family in America is nothing short of armed robbery to the Clinton’s and their ilk. I have said for years that Hillary had no shot at the presidency and I am not about to back away from that prediction now. However, if by some horrible twist of fate or circumstance Ms. Clinton is the Democratic nominee for president this summer, mark my words; she will not have earned it. Rather, she, her attack-dog husband and her racist band of thieves will have found a way to reach into the deepest, darkest, most evil roots of American’s souls and scared them just enough to question whether or not a “black guy” can be the figurative boss of them. I have no idea what level of genetic racism still exists in America today, but I do know this; the only thing that trumps my own nausea at watching this whole hypocritical charade play out is the guilty pleasure of justice and vindication I feel deep in my soul at the sight of haughty elitists being hoisted on their own petards. -------------------
