Congratulations!
You have finally landed on the one page on this entire site (and on the entire internet for that matter) that is purely without bullshit... my soapbox page. There are a lot of times during our show that, whether it's because of time constraints and other obligations, I don't always get to address some issues that I feel don't get the attention they deserve. There are even more times when I just don't feel like waiting until the show the next day to get some things off my chest. Thus, I have started the "Rob's Soapbox" page. If you have clicked on this page looking for someone to coddle your fragile sense of self-esteem, or tell you what you want to hear or to reinforce your outdated world view, then exit this page right now and go somewhere else. If you are in search of the last forum for reason and common sense left in the world, then sit back, relax, and enjoy. I make only one promise with this soapbox page... if you read long enough and often enough, you will eventually be offended. So here's my latest soapbox. Listen up, 'cause you just might learn something... |

The Asinine Things You People Say... Part 14
I have started referring to my "favorite" (insert sarcasm here) phone calls into the show as "Hall of Fame" calls. Anytime I see on my computer screen that someone is ready to make a complete ass of themselves by making a comment we have addressed 1,000 times before, I now use that term.
Over the next few weeks, months, Hell maybe years, I will document them all for you in this forum. Week number fourteen's entry is a personal response to an outlandish claim that came in during this week's show. I quite honestly can't remember the caller's exact words, but his message was clear; to accuse me of ignoring our listeners and taking them for granted. He claimed he had "heard from his friends," that I treat our audience as though I don't have time for them and don't care about them.
Arnie, Dawn and Nick came to my defense and voiced the cause admirably, and I appreciated it, but I thought I should use this forum to make a few things quite clear.
I am not sure if this caller was being honest, or simply using the convenient "I heard from friends" excuse to get under my skin with a lie. Either way, I have things to say about it, and yes, he did get under my skin. Why? Because we take this issue SO seriously.
I am going to assume that he was being truthful that he had a friend or two tell him I was an ass in public. The fact is, everyone has an off day or a bad moment. I would never try to claim that I have always treated every listener that I have met the way that they deserved to be treated. It's simply not possible. What I will tell you is that all of us on the show strive for perfection in this area. Hopefully, we achieve excellence.
What really got me was that this clown tried to claim that this was some kind of "common held belief" about me. That I had the reputation of being this way, which is simply a blatant lie, as my partners pointed out.
Here's the deal: All of us on this show recognize that we are absolutely nothing without you, our audience. We all take very seriously that fact that you will take times out of your lives to attend our live events and go out of your ways to meet us and tell us you love the show. In return, the least we can do is be cordial and friendly and give you as much of our undivided attention as is possible. Sometimes we can spend less time than we'd like with each of you, as other listeners who have made equivalent sacrifices are waiting.
If you ever feel as though you don't get that treatment, you let one of us know, and we'll make it right. Our goal is for you to walk away from us feeling the way you should - you were glad to meet us.
