DOCUMENTING WHAT ENVIRONMENTALISTS DON'T KNOW

The following is an email, in its’ entirety, the show received on Tuesday, March 30th:

Rob,

I heard your show this morning on global warming, as I was flipping threw channels, and first off let me say that I am not going to be the asshole that lectures you on global warming, I am indifferent on that matter. However,I am going to be the asshole who lectures you on being a responsible human being. I am slightly offended at what you were saying about plastic and paper and aerosol and coal and going green. Whether those things have a warming effect on the Earth shouldn't be the issue. We know that plastic and coal and gasoline all create emissions that cause pollution, we should care enough about the air our children and grandchildren will breath to choose paper over plastic or, god forbid, reusable bags. 30% of the waste that is in our landfills can be recycled. So when I hear you say things like the "green police" are taking away your freedoms and what is next, "mandatory abortions", that just proves how ignorant you are. No one is taking your rights because they want to tax plastic or encourage you to use reusable bags at the grocery store. And before you even say it, if you cut out plastic you'll need twice as many paper and reusable bags, so no one will be out of a job. And as a former San Franciscan, I enjoyed not having to ask for paper at the grocery store and being able to breath the air, unlike in this town with the thick coat of smog each morning. I think Gavin Newsom is a politician, San Francisco has it's problems but at least the mayor was voted in based on his political credentials, not the fact that he was is an ex-King. This is exactly why I dreaded moving back here, because of ignorant people like you. I thank God every day I have that I have the opportunity to move out of this narrow minded country. I know you are going to call me a hippie, a liberal, and un-American and that's fine, if having a conscience and being concerned about the pollution in the air and the garbage in the ocean, then I am proud to be a hippie and a liberal.

The following is the same email, reprinted almost line-by-line, proving that nearly everything that the e-mailer wrote is either; false, specious, or at best un-provable, despite her condescension and authoritative tone:

We know that plastic and coal and gasoline all create emissions that cause pollution, we should care enough about the air our children and grandchildren will breath to choose paper over plastic or, god forbid, reusable bags. For Starters, the writer has not received her latest email from the “Compost Courier,” or the Greenhouse Gazette,” because she has not gotten word that paper is no longer, once again, better than plastic, thus proving that we don’t “know” things that people like this e-mailer claim that we do. http://www.reusablebags.com/facts.php?id=7
Furthermore, these bogus claims about “emissions” have been proven false time and again on a myriad of levels; for starters, as Dr. Roy Spencer, former NASA scientists and avowed global warming denier has documented time and time again, it takes 5 years of total CO2 emissions by all of humanity to add just one molecule of CO2 to each 100,000 in the atmosphere; that’s how insignificant we are as a species; this claim by Dr. Spencer has never been disputed by any scientist ever. Additionally, it isn’t a question of what  the human race allegedly puts into the atmosphere that should even be an issue, it’s the Earth’s provable ability to cleanse itself of these pollutants that makes the argument false on its’ face. http://www.drroyspencer.com/2009/05/white-roofs-and-global-warming-a-more-realistic-perspective/

30% of the waste that is in our landfills can be recycled. An extensive study done by pro-environmentalist Clemson University and re-affirmed by hundreds of scientists, many of them climate change believers, blew the lid off of the claimed benefits of recycling. Recycling actually produces more pollutants than simply tossing most garbage into landfills. http://people.clemson.edu/~wahoo/211/recycling%20myths.pdf

.So when I hear you say things like the "green police" are taking away your freedoms and what is next, "mandatory abortions", that just proves how ignorant you are. Actually, that is exactly what John Holdren, President Obama’s policy czar on the environment, has proposed for more than 3 decades and has never publicly refuted. “mandatory, forced abortions” are written, real and exactly what a high ranking member of the current American administration believes and wants. Ignorance is defined as the lack of knowledge, arrogance and delusion is defined by this email from this listener. http://www.prisonplanet.com/john-holdren-obamas-science-czar-forced-abortions-and-mass-sterilization-needed-to-save-the-planet.html

as a former San Franciscan, I enjoyed… being able to breath the air, unlike in this town with the thick coat of smog each morning. I would say that this letter writer can’t possibly be this ignorant, but she’s already proven that to not be true. The presence of existing smog has nothing to do with bags, coal and garbage, it has to do with jet streams and valley bowls. Environmental whackos can’t have it both ways. When Chernobyl, volcanic eruptions and tanker fires occur half way around the world, they claim that the pollutants will “blow into America,” yet this letter writer refuses to acknowledge that cities like Sacramento and Los Angeles which are surround by bowl like valleys act as collecting grounds for smog that blows in from swirling jet streams ushering in dirt from cities hundreds of miles away. Which is it? And by the way, if you breathe in while standing on Polk Street in San Francisco, you hardly get fresh air…it’s usually a combination of foreign B.O. and homeless excrement…yes, I am sure that’s good for the environment.

I think Gavin Newsom is a politician, San Francisco has it's problems but at least the mayor was voted in based on his political credentials, not the fact that he was is an ex-King. No one hates Sacramento more than me; but anyone who holds up Gavin Newsom as a mayor “voted in on his political credentials,” when he most famously ruined any chance of gay marriage being made legal as he proudly proclaimed, while spitting in the voters’ faces “There’s nothing you can do about it…it’s gonna happen,” is simply intellectually dishonest. It’s also fun to watch liberals condemn liberals to support specious arguments as well. Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former basketball player and a horrible mayor, is a left-wing nut-job who aligns himself completely with the thinking of this elitist snob letter writer, but since it seems expedient to her argument, she mocks him, his credentials and the city that elected him, disregarding the fact that he is probably more aligned with her thinking than the almighty Gavin Newsom.

. I know you are going to call me a hippie, a liberal, and un-American and that's fine, if having a conscience and being concerned about the pollution in the air and the garbage in the ocean, then I am proud to be a hippie and a liberal.  Not at all. Making the choice to be concerned about pollution is the beauty of the freedoms of the greatest nation on earth and I support and encourage you to follow your heart and your dreams. All I ask is that you support my individual freedom to choose not to care about such things. Freedom is a two-way street that runs over one party every day.
