Congratulations!
You have finally landed on the one page on this entire site (and on the entire internet for that matter) that is purely without bullshit... my soapbox page. There are a lot of times during our show that, whether it's because of time constraints and other obligations, I don't always get to address some issues that I feel don't get the attention they deserve. There are even more times when I just don't feel like waiting until the show the next day to get some things off my chest. Thus, I have started the "Rob's Soapbox" page. If you have clicked on this page looking for someone to coddle your fragile sense of self-esteem, or tell you what you want to hear or to reinforce your outdated world view, then exit this page right now and go somewhere else. If you are in search of the last forum for reason and common sense left in the world, then sit back, relax, and enjoy. I make only one promise with this soapbox page... if you read long enough and often enough, you will eventually be offended. So here's my latest soapbox. Listen up, 'cause you just might learn something... |

Januray 28th, 2008 MEMO TO HOLLYWOOD: THE REST OF AMERICA STILL LOVES AMERICA Let us begin by agreeing upon and acknowledging some un-deniable truths: 1. There is a growing number of “blame America first,” Americans in the United States. These are the cretins who live in this nation, enjoying the benefits that come from all of its’ greatness and freedoms, yet simultaneously believe that America is responsible for everything that is wrong in the world. Global warming? America’s fault for consuming so much. Strife in the Middle East? America’s fault for not brokering peace, for having military bases in the region and for buying all of their oil. Cubans starving? America’s fault because of our embargo against their oppressive, communist regime. Haitians drowning? America’s fault for being a better country than Haiti. On and on the list goes… 2. No where in the country is there a greater concentration of these “America haters,” than in Hollywood, home to the far left wing whacko-fringe of the United States. 3. Most Americans hate Hollywood and love America. More importantly, most Americans hate America haters. Most of us still view this nation as family. We can fight like cats and dogs with one another, but when you attack us as a nation, we come together and destroy you. Hollywood has never accepted, understood or cared about what the rest of America thinks. As with most elitists, Hollywood, as a culture, believes that they are enlightened and you are an idiot. Anyone who doesn’t see the world as they do is simply either too stupid to know better or needs to be taught how wrong they are. For the most part, it is this mindset that fuels most Hollywood scripts that involve the United States as a plotline. In some cases, the message is overt, as in the Michael Moore anti-America series that begins with Farenheight 9/11 and ends with “Sicko,” which basically just say, “your country sucks and here’s why, insert lie here.” Other Hollywood message films mask their intent with a more light hearted tone such as the Michael Douglas movie “The American President,” in which we are brazenly told that if we would all just give up our rights to own handguns, there would be no crime ever anywhere. The fascinating thing about Hollywood’s far-left whacko agenda is that it provides them cover to continue to spew their propaganda while losing money at record levels. Remember that if Hollywood had its’ way, there would be no such thing as capitalism anymore and everyone would be paid the same based solely on their intention to be “good,” not based on results. This type of asinine thinking allows studio after studio and actor after actor to continue to make “Hate America” movies, despite tens of millions of dollars being lost in the process because so few actual Americans will pay to see such tripe. You need look no further than the past few years to see stunning proof of the fact that anytime Hollywood rolls out an anti-America film, Americans stay away in droves: THE KINGDOM (Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner) Message: The war on terror is un-winnable because we, the United States, are just as violent and evil as the Islamo-fascists. The final line of the movie sums up the whole horrible plot and basically says that if we stop killing them, they’ll stop killing us. Bottom Line: FLOP. It cost $70 million to make and sold less than $48 million in ticket sales in American box offices. Of course, it made almost that much across the world because no one likes an “I hate America” movie more than non-Americans. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=kingdom.htm
RENDITION (Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gylenhall) Message: Our country is so stupid, racist and evil that we will snatch the first Arab-looking guy we see and torture him for no good reason, just in case he’s a terrorist. Bottom Line: FLOP by all measures. Even foreigners refused to see this hunk of junk. It cost $27 million make, and sold less than $19 million in worldwide tickets. In America, less than $10 million, even with star power. http://the-numbers.com/movies/2007/RNDTN.php
CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR (Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts) Message: Communism wasn’t really that big of a threat in the first place, but if you think it was, it was brought down single-handedly by a fun-loving, womanizing drunk named Charlie Wilson who just happened to be a Democrat, not by that idiot Ronald Reagan. Bottom Line: DISSAPONTING/FLOP. While this movie may break even, no one expects a Tom Hanks/ Julia Roberts movie to make less than $150 million, especially when it opens at Christmas time. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=charliewilsonswar.htm
REDACTED (directed by Brian De Palma) Message: The United States Marines are a bunch of fat, racist hicks who rape and murder brown skinned girls just for fun. De Palma literally claimed that this piece of shit movie was based on actual events because he “read about them on the internet.” Bottom Line: ENORMOUS FLOP. Sold $65,388 in ticket sales before being sent to DVD to die a well deserved death. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=redacted.htm
LION FOR LAMBS (Tom Cruise, Robert Redford) Message: War is bad…always, but especially the current War on Terror. Speak up and fight the power. Bottom Line: FLOP in America, and not surprisingly, a huge hit across the world. Way to give aid and comfort to the enemy. Less than $15 million in ticket sales in America despite Redford, Cruise and Streep, more than $40 million worldwide. Lovely. http://the-numbers.com/movies/2007/LNLMB.php
IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH (Tommy lee Jones) Message: The war on terror is not only a futile failure, it turns American soldiers who wrongfully believe that they’re fighting for justice, into child-killing rapists who laugh while doing so. Bottom Line: TOTAL FLOP. Cost $23 million to make, made less than $7 million in America. Hell, even foreigners refused to see it. http://the-numbers.com/movies/2007/VELAH.php
The truth is that the only way Hollywood can make money with story lines such as these in this day and age is by making the movie appear to be “pro-American,” when in fact it isn’t. “Black Hawk Down,” was such a film on a variety of levels, starting with the Astrodome-sized historical inaccuracies and ending with the sickening fact that it involved a crushing defeat for our military. You just know that Hollywood LOVED making that movie, especially since it involved the torture and denigration of our soldiers and their bodies. Never mind the fact that our military was never given the tools, authority or firepower needed to stand a chance of completing that mission, Hollywood was far more interested in exploiting how unnecessary and shitty our military is in their eyes than actually showing you the truth. Since they marketed the film as a compelling, heroic look at our brave men and women, people ate it up and went to see it ad nauseum. It was only afterwards as countless columnists and military officials spoke out about the sophistry of the film that some people took notice of what a joke it was.
