BALANCE

When I was in my 20’s I would hear folks older than I talking about finding balance in their lives and how important it was. I at the time shrugged it off as something that I didn’t need to think about until later in life. I was wrong! I had always lived my life to one extreme or another, there was no balance. I either partied real hard and could care less about school or would not party at all and concentrate on my schooling. I would go from exercising to extremes to not exercising at all. When it came to eating I either was disciplined and deprived myself or I didn’t care what or how much I ate again no balance. Relationships I had with guys, oh lordy please, we were really happy or really miserable, you know what I mean with that one when it was good it was really good and when it was bad oh shit it was really bad!! Again no balance. When it came to jobs before I started my career I would work 2 instead of just one, it was either work super hard or don’t work at all, I chose to work super hard. Once I stared my radio career 6 or 7 days a week of work was no big deal and working 12 – 16 hour work days felt normal, I had the philosophy we all have heard a million times, work hard and play hard, again no balance.

Throughout the years I have finally come to realize that having balance is really the only way to live a healthy happy life. Yes work hard but balance it out with relationship time, alone time, relaxation time and exercise. Be there for your family and friends but don’t lose yourself in the process. Eat the damn cookie, one or two wont’ make you fat! Balance your meals, don’t go from eating too much to not enough, try to always eat just to satisfaction no more no less….balance. When you look around at people who have truly mastered living a balanced life, no part of their life suffers. Trust me I know this at time seems impossible and I myself have not mastered it yet, but I have learned from therapy, my husband and Rob, we can only control ourselves and that includes how we decide to divide up our time, put too much time in one area and the rest gets off balance, the world really isn’t black and white, it really is gray and that helps this to be A Wonderful Life!

Drop me a line to let me know your thoughts on my "It's a Wonderful Life" column...
