MY BIG FAT ITALIAN WEDDING

For anyone who saw the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and is apart of a big family that is close, watched the movie shaking your head going ‘yep, totally, oh my gosh I can so relate!!” My husband’s cousin Marc who is of course Italian like my husband just got married to a wonderful Italian girl Christina. There was over 300 people at the wedding, 14 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, the huge mob of  family that lives right here in Sacramento along with family from all over including of course Brooklyn and Queens, it was a traditional Catholic ceremony with Mass and the Priest being the uncle of the bride!! Yes this was truly an Italian wedding which I loved!! This kind of stuff makes me so proud that I have Italian blood running through me, there really is so much honor and pride to being an Italian American and you really see it when you get a bunch of us together especially at weddings! At Italian weddings if you are meeting family for the first time or you haven’t seen parts of the family in a long time, it doesn’t matter they will welcome you with open arms because “you are family,” you will hear that a lot! For Italians it’s a big deal to include all the family on your big day, if you don’t like Gary and I didn’t, we had a very small wedding, you won’t hear the end of it out of love of course!! Any who the Aunties, Uncle’s, Nana’s and Papa’s, cousins, sister’s and brothers all want to share in the day because they all love you and have been with you your whole life up to this point so they want to share in your happiness and it’s very respectful and the honorable thing to do to include them and the love that everyone brings to the wedding can be felt it really is so beautiful, just as it was at Marc and Christina’s wedding. We have all been to those weddings where  you can just feel it in the air that everyone is just there out of obligation, or folks really aren’t sure if the two getting married should be! That just was so not the case with this wedding! From the moment you walked into St. Mary’s Catholic Church you knew this was right everyone was honestly happy and excited and at the reception it was not just a party but a true celebration of Marc and Christina’s love and two families merging as one! It’s days like those that I am reminded that yes this truly is A Wonderful Life!!
