Updated March 3rd, 2008 BOUNDARIES Yes I know it’s such a 90’s term, but important and very affective. Think about it we ALL need boundaries and we start getting them as a baby, then child, teenager and even as an adult. No matter how complex boundaries can get there is one common theme, boundaries are set for us and we set them for protection. As a child the boundary may protect you from hurting yourself or someone else, as a teenager boundaries may be set to protect you from growing up too fast or to have you learn at a steady pace how to become an adult. And as adults we set boundaries for ourselves to protect our values and beliefs. Unfortunately, if you didn’t learn at an early age the value of boundaries you may not be setting them for yourself as an adult or it may take you years to do so. I myself would love to see you living an emotionally healthy and stable adulthood knowing exactly what your boundaries consist of. The first step I believe in being able to set boundaries for yourself as an adult is knowing yourself. If you don’t take the time to get to really know yourself and what you stand for what you believe in what kind of life you want for yourself you will fall for whatever and whomever comes your way. Now of course the process of you getting to know yourself will include falling for someone or something that once you know yourself you wouldn’t. The big test is once you know it are you then strong enough to put that boundary in place? I used to think women more than men fell into this trap but as I go through life I am realizing emotionally unhealthy people are the ones who are less likely to set boundaries up for themselves, to believe that they are worth doing so and I think it is mainly out of fear because they have allowed themselves to be controlled. If this is you I hope you start to believe in yourself so you can break free from the control and set up proper boundaries with your relationships and trust me that, my friend, will help this to be A Wonderful Life!
