CHURCH UNDER THE BRIDGE

Yummy Bradley Cooper! He is one of the many Bachelor’s featured in this week’s People Magazine’s Hottest Bachelor edition and of course I had to pick up my copy and drool!! So with all my trashy mags I read them front to back, every inch...and towards the very back of the magazine I found the most incredibly touching story, told in few words by Darla Atlas along with some photos, the whole story just stood out on its own without a lot of words. Here is some background that was given..It’s called Church Under the Bridge in Waco, Texas located in an area below Interstate 35 its all concrete and gravel but every Sunday 300 people gather to hear Pastor Jimmy Dorrell speak. Jimmy and his wife started Church Under the Bridge in 1992 as a Bible Study group and now it has grown to 300 members, a majority of them are homeless who participate in the recovery groups and rely on hot meals the church provides.

As I looked at the photos I couldn’t help but think if Jesus was walking the Earth today this is exactly the kind of work he would be doing. What I know of Jesus, he didn’t build any huge churches, he went and preached the word where the truly down and out people were wherever that may have been, the streets of a town, out in fields, by rivers etc…he didn’t set up shop in some big fantastic fancy church building waiting for those that were hurting to come to him, he went and reached out to the lost souls. So freaken beautiful that that is exactly what this couple has chose to do with their lives, really try and do Jesus’ work. To quote Pastor Jimmy Dorrell……”We’re going to love them in spite of themselves, we’re not going to give up on them.” That is true dedication toward those in need, because people that have hit rock bottom take 2 steps forward and then it’s 2 steps back, it is a lot of time and effort something most of us aren’t willing to give. But those that do know the reward of helping someone pick themselves up is more than words can express, these type of people are true Saints and help this to be A Wonderful Life!
