DON’T FORGET

Is this not the best time of year or what!!? Love love it! For me there are few negatives during the Holidays, sure stores are more crowded,  lines are long, more cars are on the road, airports are more busy, and our to do lists get even longer. However thru the years I have learned to just take a deep breath and realize this is all apart of the holidays and getting upset at any of it won’t change it it will only change my mood for the worse and who wants to go about their whole day grumpy!!?? The negatives I am talking about are what most of us are guilty of, the forgetting. Forgetting to relax, whether it be alone, with your husband, wife or children we seem to forget to say enough let’s slow down and spend some quality time together all this other “stuff” can wait. Some of us forget to give to those that are worse off this time of year than ourselves, we may say ‘times are tough we can’t do it,’  there are always folks who have it worse off than you. When I was 20 years old starting out in radio after paying rent and school bills I would literally only have $10 dollars to go grocery shopping with, a truck that I was lucky would start in the morning and an abusive S.O.B boyfriend. Guess what as tough of times that was for me, it was NOTHING compared to what others were going thru, if we could just remember to acknowledge that yes maybe where our lives are at at this moment may not be exactly where we want to be, there are still numerous positives. Mine back then, I was starting a career, I had a job, I had friends and family that loved me, already that is a list that a lot of people didn’t have. Even when times are tough we should not forget to give. Giving doesn’t always mean money. Giving time is priceless, literally!! Whether it’s reading to children in hospitals, running errands for the elderly or packaging up food at food banks to go to hungry families, if at all we are going to give, this would be the time of year to get inspired to do so. For most Christmas is a religious time however even those of us that believe in the story of Jesus also forget to really remember the meaning of this time of year. I invite you to read my Turkey Soup this week, it’s a great story of remembering what this time of year is really about. One of the most important things to NEVER forget are our Soldiers. American men and women away from their homes, families and all the comforts that they know to protect us. So the next time you are mad that the line is to long, there is to much traffic or your flight is packed think of the soldier who is keeping you safe, who isn’t seeing the birth of their child, who is surrounded by danger and who selflessly gives of themselves so these can be our biggest complaints during the Holidays, not forgetting will help this to be A Wonderful Life!!
