Updated December 3rd, 2007 HOLIDAY DIETING??? Okay so is it possible? Usually folks wait til after the Holiday’s to start trying to get into shape, however I know I am not alone. There are those of us who know we just have to get healthy and waiting until the holidays are over is just not an option. I mean seriously we would be in even worst shape if we let ourselves pig out during the Christmas season. Now there are several of you who don’t have an ounce to lose so of course you can let yourself have those goodies and not feel guilty and there are those that know they need to lose weight but will still stuff themselves and also not feel guilty. Folks like me however are not able to eat the goodies, be out of shape and not feel guilty. So how the heck do we get thru the holidays eating well? Cakes, cookies, pies, cheesy and cream dips are everywhere. Neighbors, friends and family are stopping by to give you some kind of treat they made for you. Co -workers this whole month will bring in goodies and place them all over the break table. Christmas parties seem to be happening just about every weekend. We also bake goodies for folks and most the time when you are baking something you taste it to make sure it is turning out good. Then of course you are so busy by the time you eat you are famished and just put whatever you can find that is fast in your mouth. Shish! We for sure have some challenges!! Alright so last holiday season I totally let myself eat whatever I felt like eating and them some, the result I gained back the weight I lost in 2005. That is a huge bummer because I worked my ass off with a trainer, I mean it was SUPER hard work. So I want to save you from all your hard work, trust me you don’t want to work out that hard just to let yourself go again. During the holiday’s in 2004 and 2005 I did not eat an ounce of anything that was bad because I was so disciplined and dedicated to working out, the result however is I felt totally deprived and went nuts in 2006 and you know the drill once you deprive yourself for so long and then let yourself eat the crap you just can’t stop!! So here is my solution for those of us who know we must stay with our eating healthy plan even during the holidays, if you find yourself really wanting to have some holiday fare, work it into your calorie allotment. That way you won’t go over on your calories and it will keep you from eating too much of the treats. You will then at the same time learn how to eat the junk in moderation, which is the key. Don’t let the busy season keep you from working out, you know what I am talking about you will try and tell yourself you will work out later or tomorrow and you know you won’t. You have heard it a million times but it is true, make an appointment with yourself to work out and it has to matter like any other appointment, it is non negotiable to miss it. And don’t say to yourself ‘well I don’t have time to work out for an hour.’ Then work out for however long you have, 20 – 30 minutes is far better than nothing. It’s all a mind trick if you tell yourself you can’t then you won’t, that’s the difference with those that succeed at being fit, they tell themselves they can and will workout, they don’t let the excuses get in their way. Remember anything worth having is hard to get, it will take hard work at staying within your calorie allotment, it will take hard work to exercise but to be successful at ANYTHING you MUST WORK FOR IT!!! Remember if you want to eat like everyone else, you will look like everyone else and 2 out of 3 of us are fat!!! So relax take a deep breath, remember what your goals are, allow yourself some treats and you will get thru this season and when you do you will be so proud of yourself you deserve to love yourself so much that you keep yourself healthy year round and that my friend helps this to be A Wonderful Life!!
