HOMELESS BOOK CLUB!

Okay so this is probably another reason why I am the least fun person..but yes I not only read the gossip in People Magazine but I love reading the Heroes Among Us section, F.U.N!!!! This weeks is about a Book Club for the homeless an article written by Jennifer Wren. What a clever idea! Obviously being on the streets is no picnic so being able to mentally escape becomes super important, hey we all need our escapes and the homeless are no different. This way instead of reaching for drugs or alcohol, some homeless can turn to reading great novels and letting their minds escape into the story.

A man by the name of Peter Resnik who is a high-powered Boston Lawyer and for years would pass homeless people while walking thru the park on his way to work, one day started a friendship with one of the homeless people named Rob. They would have great conversations about books that Peter would bring along which then sparked the idea of a book club for the homeless. Peter got together with Ron Tibbets, an outreach worker and they started the book club which now meets every week at a church. It’s a couple of hours that these men and women can gain confidence, friendships and what I imagine makes them feel alive and they belong. It isn’t about what they don’t have it’s about their minds. What seems like the smallest thing to us can really make a huge difference for others which helps this to be A Wonderful Life!
