Updated March 10th, 208 LIVING IN THE NOW So there is this book titled The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, it’s been out for awhile so you may have heard about it or have read it. I was in the bookstore one day recently and it caught my eye because I have heard people say that over time they really learned how to ‘live in the now.’ Easier said than done, that is for sure! Lots of people have a tendency to cling onto the past or think of the future way to much, meaning we are missing the NOW. The past is important so we can learn from it, the problem comes in when we either don’t learn from it and or don’t move on from it. That alone can hold you prisoner from really enjoying the moments you have at this moment. The future on the other hand is important for setting goals knowing where you want to be in life and planning for it, however we can also get so consumed with a future that has not happened yet we are missing the moments that are happening right now in our lives. Throughout the years this is stuff that we learn but somehow don’t apply because well the mind can be so powerful, this is where this book or books like it come in. This particular book is pretty deep and some of the stuff I don’t agree with but overall it really has some helpful chapters in really teaching a person how to shut off the unnecessary thoughts we let go through our minds that keep us from really learning who we are and really learning how to enjoy the ‘now.’ If you think about it, you kind of go ‘duh,!’ because what can you do about the past other than learn from it? Nothing, it’s already happened and you can’t change it, so living in it is pointless. On the same token, what can you do about the future other than make your plans and put them into motion? Same answer, nothing, because it hasn’t happened yet and you can drive yourself crazy thinking about all the things that ‘could’ happen, ‘may’ happen, ‘might’ happen and living in something that hasn’t happened yet keeps you from ‘what is’ happening. Our society is so busy, we always have somewhere to be, something to do, someone to see that it can be a constant buzz in our head, we need to stop for a moment check in with ourselves and really learn to enjoy what it is we are doing at the moment instead of thinking of the next moment. You may just enjoy your job more, your spouse more, your friends more, your kids more, even yourself more and that my friend will help this to be A Wonderful Life!
