Crazy!! So I was taking a moment to relax one day and as I was flipping thru the channels there was this Documentary on what parents have to go thru in New York City, (NEW YORK CITY…..Amateurs!!) to get their toddlers into the best Preschool. Okay so I understand how important preschool is but really this was just plain nuts! It’s as if the parents were applying to get their toddler into Harvard and the parents really treat it as such. The kids go thru what they call ‘play dates’ but they are really like rats under observation to see if they are worthy for whatever preschool they are applying for. The parents donate money, donate auction items, write essays as to why the school should accept their child, and basically kiss the asses of whoever makes the decision for the child’s acceptance into the school. Blew my mind away.
I get wanting the best for your child and doing whatever is in your power, but really this was quite eye opening and a tad bit disturbing. One mother was devastated that her child didn’t get into their ‘first choice’ school, a school that Kate Winslet’s child has been on a waiting list! Yes you heard me right, parents have what they call ‘First Choice’ school, by the way they tell all the schools that they are their ‘first choice’ so the school feels special this is where the ass kissing starts! So back to the mom that was very heartbroken that her toddler didn’t get into their first choice, so she was on her way to drop off a check to the preschool that did accept her kid, considered to be a very good preschool and this woman was upset that the school lobby wasn’t nicer, classier!! Seriously? Really? She said with the amount of money they are paying for the tuition the lobby should be better looking!! If the finest education is what you are going for, wouldn’t you want your money to go toward that!!!??? This just isn’t about a good education this is about being able to say your kid was accepted to one of the best preschools.
You know I am a reality show junkie and on the Real Housewives of New York City they did an episode about this and I thought they must be playing this up for the cameras, but no this really exists, apparently all over the country it’s just worse in New York! I really feel for you parents that have to start proving your kids are worthy at such a young age, one of the parents on the documentary ended up finding a preschool where you just came took a tour chatted with the teachers and if the class wasn’t full your child was more than welcome, imagine that!! It seemed as if the Mother was embarrassed that there was no Essay writing they had to do and guess what her child ended up thriving at that school but the Mother was still worried that this preschool wouldn’t lead to Harvard for her child!! Education for toddlers is of course important but let’s remember they are toddlers only once and should still have a toddler hood that helps them to have A Wonderful Life!
