Updated September 8th, 2008 POW/MIA With this being an election year naturally the focus is on who the heck are you gonna vote for President? We have Democrats, Republicans and Independents laying out their plans for this fine country. Conventions, debates, rumors, spin, all of it can make our heads spin! It truly is so fantastic to live in a country where we can have all this going on regardless of what your political beliefs might be, you are free to have them. You can get mad at the people who don’t agree with you, you can have open conversation or debates with them, you can walk the streets of America carrying a sign protesting your beliefs, you can cover your car with bumper stickers proclaiming your political beliefs and guess what , while many may not like what you are doing or not agree with your stance, we all are free to do it. That type of freedom was not free. This brings me to this past weekend. My husband and I were invited to attend a luncheon at a local VFW. The luncheon was being held to honor and to not forget our countries POW/MIA. There were many men there who had been POW’s. When meeting these fine gentlemen I had to stay strong cause all I wanted to do was wrap my arms around them and cry for what they had been through for my freedoms without ever knowing me. The torture they had endured is really hard to comprehend and yes like all the hero military men and women I have met in my life, they too were extremely humble. It was such a blessing to be in that room filled with heroes. The heroes who have made it possible for us to be Democrats, Republicans, Independents and whatever other parties are out there. As you try and figure out who you will be voting for this year, keep in mind, that regardless of who is in office, our military men and women will serve this country proudly. They will do their job and they will do us proud. So while we are getting caught up in who is going to be the better candidate for this country, please remember to not forget those that have served us past, present and future, they have been and will continue to be our protectors no matter if the President has a D or an R next to his name. The United States Military helps this to be A Wonderful Life! Drop me a line to let me know your thoughts on my "It's a Wonderful Life" column... |
